O seguinte excerto, que me parece merecedor de reflexão, foi publicado por Sam Davies na Wire, a propósito da reedição de "Funcrusher Plus", o primeiro e fabuloso disco dos Company Flow:
"Only Cannibal Ox's 'The Cold Vein' and El-P's subsequent solo set 'Fantastic Damage' have really approached its dense brilliance. In some ways, the group's charismatic boldness has been harmful. The deliberate obscurity of the lyrics and ferociously anti-populist lines like 'When sales controls stats I have no faith in the majority' have been picked up as excuses for navel-gazing tedium - see much of the Anticon roster - and subsequent rapping disguised as the avant garde. Being so difficult wasn't as easy as it looked. Company Flow broke the ground, but few had the skills to follow them into the dystopian wormholes they opened up in rap music"
Sem ser tão radical em relação à Anticon, apetece-me realmente frisar o quanto "Funcrusher Plus" é melhor que "Ten" dos Clouddead. Que não é nem um mau disco, nem uma obra-prima. Os discos de Sole serão os que estão mais perto da fúria dos Company Flow.
